So if only Linux could play the games, you'd dump the MS OS entirely? I would, but only if I could be arsed to learn how to use Linux... which I currently can't As for 32 vs 64 bit - I've not a clue, I don't even notice the difference in performance between my Vista laptop and my XP Desktop - so would never realise anything between 32bit and 64bit

I would dump M$ in a heart beat or less I'm sick of dual booting (did that with Ubuntu and M$) and just want ONE solution that works. Right now, that is XP. But would change that IF linux played games as well as or better than XP. Chips=GCHQ= wrote: I would, but only if I could be arsed to learn how to use Linux... which I currently can't What? Too many books fry your brain? The easiest of the linuxes is Ubuntu. But according to slaps, real mean use debian.

k, xp 64 worked fine, but vid drivers sucked i think as my benchmark scores went from 20000 in xp32 to 13000 in xp64, tried all versions etc. might be better with nvidia instead of ati.
Currently have xp32 on one drive and vista 64 on the other, vista runs ok, but of course loads of my games wont work on it. halflife 2, doom 3 , quake etc all have problems, forums all say others also have problems with the same games on vista 64.
So still need xp 32 for some apps until punkbuster gets sorted for windows 7. Ps the same games work very nicely on windows 7 64.

So far the only game that's caused un-solvable problems is Stalker, everything else I've run has worked ok, although sometimes you do have to do a little bit of tweaking (usually set older games to run as Administrator)..

halflife 2 only has stereo sound with vista64, but episodes 1 and 2 were ok, loads of others on the steam forums with the same issue, doom 3 constant crashes again the common thread seems to be vista 64, with ati cards, natually it will work ok for some as there are so many diffrent pc configs.
I am getting rid of my ati cards in favour of nvidia as i never had any problems with sli, but crossfire hasnt worked no matter how much i tweaked it, hopefully xp64 works better with nividia which would do fine till windows 7
