like i said, 5mhz core and 200 mhz from XT to XTX whereas the GTS to GTX is 32 processors, 75mhz core and 200mhz core.

if the XT is similar to the GTS then the XTX was never gonna be enough to keep up with the GTX, the spec just isnt there.

maybe if they could get the core up around 1Ghz and the GDDR4 to 1.5Ghz then it could be competative, but that will need 65nm and mental GDDR4. but could be done.

we will see

dark times for amd/ati as debt mounts and the hardware is lacking (barcelona will be a massive test)

If they did that, the hardware would be competative, but the price certainly wouldn't.

I'm happy with my GTS anyways. Runs anything I throw at it smoothly. 8)

look at the 8800Ultra, price isnt the concern (to a point), its all about some stupid kid walking into a shop and saying
"whats the fast card i can buy"
shop keeper "Nvidia... its £700"
kid "cant afford £700, do they make cheaper stuff"
shop keeper "sure, come over to our nVidia stand"

kid goes away with a mid range nvidia card (not worrying that an ATi mid range maybe better) as he beleives its made by the best company.

halo effect

I bought this card when the GTX was top. Couldn't afford the GTX and the GTS has given me good results that I'm happy with (especially now that they have fixed their god damned drivers!!). I daresay the GTS will last me a while yet anyways. I'll probs need an upgrade in 1-2 years, possibly later depending on how the card holds up and doesn't ware out. :?

I still have a 4 year old 5700LE, supprised it's not gone kaputt yet, the Fan packed up, so just bolted a new one on there. > . >;;

Nvidia hasnt been spanked

Even though I am troubled quite a bit by nvidias Vista drivers the ATI 2900 performance is below A 8800 GTS and with a terrible Performance per Watt ratio.

Wondering if a switch to ATi may be due, would it coexist with a 7800GT in the other slot (extra desktop only). Should do in theory. It's all a dream my car insurance is due.

Yeah that would be fine but what about mixing brands, two sets of drivers. I have run Nvidia with Matrox before (a long time ago using PCI) but not ATI and not in a modern system (PCIe). They should work ok but it'd be a risk. I'll probably eventually go with nvidia anyway but am curious.

the drivers are rubish atm all alpha releases.

the current drivers are optimized for 3dmark, and if you look at the 3d mark scores, the XT is well ahead of the GTS and close to the GTX.

give it a few weeks for a beta or full release driver with a full set of optimizations and i think you will find the GTS has some more serious competition.

note im not saying this from a ATi fan boy view... look at my post about the XTX to see that.

i am interested in hardware, work for a hardware website, benchmark as a semi pro, so know some people.

the XT has more in the tank.

as for how much, only waiting will tell.
