The Register: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 and X48 chipset

"Intel's X48 chipset appears to be little more than a carefully selected X38, and our enthusiasm for the new chipset was washed away in a torrent of disappointment. But the Core 2 Extreme QX9770 is a completely different story. It’s unbelievably fast and it overclocks to 4.0GHz with the bare minimum of cooling. Intel looks to be in for a good 2008, and no doubt that’s why it decided to send us a the QX9770 just before Christmas, just so it could spread the cheer around."

The point is with that attitude we'd still be usnig Pentium 100s and saying saying the are fast enough for the software we had then. We'd still be using the software we had then as well and there would be no progress.

In other words there always needs to be a leading edge and at this time the QX9770 is it. One day it will be midrange and evertually obsolete. Thats how things work.

Now go and cook you dinner in your perfectly good Range. Using the glow from your perfectly adequate Candles.

Which came first? Chicken or egg?

Mobo with support for 1600Mhz front side bus?
Processor with support 1600Mhz front side bus?

This time, it's the CPU (apparently).

its also just doing things 'because we can' and 'to prove we're the best'....whether anyone actually buys the damn thing or not doesn't matter...and the technology developed to make things as pwnsome as that filter down into production models....qv formula one...
