Want something a bit more secure and a bit less crashy (in terms of fatal crashes ubuntu has just overtaken os x 10.5 after doing a clean install of 7.10 by crashcount, with windows xp and 2003 coming way behind as the most stable.)

Suggestions?

I rate Mepis highly, its very similar to kubuntu but different enough. Its the only distro I have found where you can connect to a wireless network with a broadcom wireless chip using a live cd with no configuration necessary. Not ever a fresh install of Windows could do that.

I still havn't tried the 64 bit version yet but hope to soon.

ps did you see my pm.

I've yet to have ubuntu crash on me, despite tinkering with it :?

Never had FreeBSD crash on me either and I've really played around with that one

Have made XP BSOD on the odd occasion 8)
