Ive put this question in here as i don't want to hear format!!!! reinstall!!!! or whack more ram in it!!!!
is an old computer capable of running a program (written on fox pro) as efficiently ( but slower ) than a new computer
if an old computer is in full working order,i would think it would do every task its asked to do just as well as a new computer but just slower?

Its depends on the exact program and exact hardware, for example
A computer capable only of Direct X7 can't run applications written for DX9 / 10. They programs may be able to run in a limited capacity in a legacy mode but this affects more than speed.
A program which takes up 10GB of disk space can't be run on a pc with a 5GB hard drive.
Some programs wont run at all unless the hardware meets certain specifications such as running vista on a PC with 64MB ram.
If a program is compiled 64 bit is wont run on an 32 Bit Processor or OS.
if A program is compiled with special instructions such as SSE3 they will run on Processors without SSE capabilities but the OS has to do lots of work, even at the same clock speed the program may run many orders of magnitude slower without the hardware support.
Theres a lot more to a pc than clock speed, they can only really be considered as a platform (including the OS) before determining if they can run a particular program (well).
Programs written in Fox Pro would probably run on any platform, as I am assuming the compiler is too old to require new hardware instructions / support.
I hope this helps.

thx Glen ... the prog in question {in our opinion] is unstable and crashes at the drop of a hat the software company has said to run a spacific part of the prog they need an old computer with lots of ram ... im saying the ram wont matter, if the computer is stable it will run it im saying the prog is unstable not the computers its running on

how much is a lot of ram ? the older the computer the % at which ram becomes alot changes a 486 had a lot of ram with 8mb etc it could be that the programs is so old it need a 32bit extender to use ems of some old shit like that, this situation could cause it not to run / crash on a modern machine

A Pentium/Pentium II would prolly do the trick with 128MB RAM...?
