Hey guys, I got a small issue.

A lady can't connect with her laptop to the office.
VPN connection was created yonks ago and never had a problem.
We re formatted the computer she wants to VPN to and now has a problem.

At the moment two things I thought about trying are:
Re creating the VPN link, but I thought because it has always worked what is the point.
Secondly her IP address of her local machine is the only thing that has changed. But that shouldnt have an effect with the VPN?

The error is an error 800 unable to establish VPN connection.

Mega n00b eek

I'd love to know MORE about VPN but I know a "bit".

I take it that it's a Cisco VPN? Have answered yes anyways ;)

Using this search, I found a few things (quickly) about this.

I'm wondering... was there any "local" setup at the router level? I'm taking it that the usual suspects (connection to the interwebz, firewall/ISS software disabled) have been eliminated?

What happens if you assign the IP as it was before? Does it solve the issue?

Can you post when you get a result?

I'm sorry I couldn't be any more help :(

Has the router changed since last time and are the right ports opened? e.g. 1732 and does it allow passthrough, cos if it doesnt i think you wont be able to connect to any VPN.

if it's her machine working as a VPN server, you'd need to change the NAT rules on ports 1723,1701 and 500 to point to the reloaded PC.

If it's a pix or so handling the VPN, it should be independant of any stuff on the LAN and still work....
(unless you've wiped their radius server  )

Hey guys, right sorry I have not been around much.

The issue appeared to be solved.

Info on the issue was

Basically what was happening was, if she wanted to work from home we needed create a VPN link.
So obviously tap in the WAN address and the user details to connect to that VPN.

Once the VPN has been created we needed to remote desktop to the computer.
So because its connected via VPN tap in the local ip address of her works computer and her work screen obviously should pop up.

Now it did a random thing were maybe after being connected for 5 minutes to just drop the connection and it was not 5 minutes sometimes it would be 20 or 45 minutes.

Anyway I took the laptop away and put it on my home network.
Literally NO problems left the laptop running for over an hour.

So I spoke to the old man and I said how is that possible for it to work on ours but not hers.

Now the problem never really got solved, because of an incident at there works between my old man and another guy who tried to gain control of the I.T Administration. Big mistake when Dad is around. So as a effect of this guy we lost the contract because Dad would not let anyone touch our equipment (I thought that was completley understandable) Fair does that guy was a oldaxewound though!

So I got a feeling its not the router in work its the router in the house. I'm still following it up as well as other things just trying to gain more knowledge. Unless it was both the routers needing some sort of kick up the arse because of the recently re-installed machine.

Thanks for the feedback though and I hope this is a little more detailed and makes sence.
Sorry to blabber on.

Regards

Nathan
