DailyTech: New Toshiba Gaming Notebook Uses Three NVIDIA GPUs

Image

"The GPUs used in the X305-Q706 and X305-Q708 are the new NVIDIA 9400M integrated GPU and a pair of NVIDIA 9800M GTS cards in SLI. The use of three GPUs allows the gamer to go for quiet, power frugal integrated graphics to the performance needed to run today's hottest video games at high detail settings as needed."

Would you WANT to have SLi in a laptop? Surely the heat would kill it or something

Reading between the lines the use a low power main GPU for everyday use and two cool running chips to boost 3d when necessary, rather than one always on hot chip. I guess the idea is to distribute the heat and prevent hot spots.

good idea :D

it'll have low power consumption for regular deskwork with the integrated gpu but still be able to give good performance when you use the sli mode :)

most laptops underclock the gpu now, but a much slower and less resource hungry gpu is probably more efficient than slowing down a more powerful one :)
