i got a netgear 834 rangemax wireless..and a 780i speedtouch.....routers...both downstairs.... and on adsl2+.best place for them is right next to the phone...but the wireless..was a bit iffy to the ps3 upstairs.. so i spent a bit of dosh..and bought a dlan wireless extender..( dlan is ethernet run over the mains...you plug in adapter at the mains near the router..connect an rj45 to it from your existing router.... and at the far end..you plug in the wireless adapter... (plugged in on the landing between bedrooms.) and does it work wel.... well its stronger than the netgear and the 780i.,.. plus the units have an rj45 port on the bottom for a wired connection as well... the ps3 now has a wireless connection strength of 90% tried video streaming over it..and smooth as silk.... devolo..not cheap..but looked at the netgear adapters...and they didnt seem as good... good thing about them is you can add more wired adapters in each room if you wish..the only restriction is they need to be on the same mains...and they dont transmit on the far side of the fusebox. I added a high gain ariel that i had spare... now the signals even stronger..... http://www.devolo.co.uk/uk_EN/index.html |

This reminds me of Digital Powerline networking, would using this be a good alternative to wireless? infact is it even available in the UK as much as it is in the US? E.g. connecting router directly to ps3/xbox through home electrical circuit. |

Ask Nicey mate, I have a funny feeling he's bought one to use instead of wireless between floors in his UK house..... I might be wrong Hopefully will be answered here! I've heard they suffer from a lot of interference, which can in some cases reduce the bandwidth capability to 250kbps or less Compared to a gigabit or 100 megabit network which most people are used too. nope... here...they called homeplugs.... available in all flavours from wireless to 200mps wired...easy to use and configure..works like a dream..no interference... and good wireless coverage.. its in the hallway..you can get 2 cheap ones... you need a pair ..for around 40 quid... not sure on those quality tho.... but mine coast around 130 quid..for a wireless and wired... 3 year guarentte..so quite good value..and can be added too if need be. |

I've got Devolo ones dotted around the house here - they are good enough for what we need |

Sounds like a plan then, I take it streaming HD content over them is not a problem then. But also for the parents might tell them to get a rangemax as the PS3 signal strength is dyre for some reason. Also what happened to my post? |

So what's cheaper? Wireless extenders bought by the tashed one from some netgear spindoctory or the good ol' cat5 cable? The next question is: was it possible? |
