Careful you don't get the LittleBIGPlanet package, far too much fun to squeeze into a box that size, might explode in the post or something :?

What makes it even more annoying is that it will do that in 1920 x 1080 which is more than most graphics cards can handle, and all that for a complete package costing less than the average top end graphics card.
Makes you wonder why you spend thousands on pc components. Annoys me anyway, and then bring into it linux, bluray, good media centre applications.................

its called marketing - total cost of ownership is over the prolonged hardware lifecycle . they can sell it at a loss because the more they sell the cheaper to them it becomes giving them a better return of investment and then profit.
then the dev kits to the game makers etc = consumer and developers over a barrel
use linux for a base os and then there is no licensing issues. if you can afford to absorb the initial development cost and marketing you have a captive audience for your return of investment
drunk anser but you get it

Aye, but as said - they sell each unit at a loss which I don't see PC component manufacturers doing - so not a fair comparison in that respect. Additionally, the games cost £10 more for the console than the PC (at play.com, possibly even larger gap in high street stores?).

Swings and roundabouts as they say. Do people make and distribute mods for Console games yet? Each one has it's positives, each has it's negatives.

Undoubtedly Sony's selling at a loss policy does two things at least:
1) Kept it competitive with the other consoles which, if they didn't sell it at a loss, the others would be so much cheaper I'd be amazed if anyone bought a PS3! If MS had made the XBox solid instead of dying, this may have been more pronounced (as it is, the three rings debacle was probably a huge help to Sony sales :D)
2) Ensured that whomever bought a PS3 on the cheap therefore had their Blu-ray format player in the home - which would support the Blu-ray acceptance and distribution vastly - ensuring that this format became the format to be used in the future by giving Sony a leg-up in winning the "format" war... potentially generating very large revenues for Sony!

I do think graphics cards are very over-priced though - people buy them when expensive, I don't ;)

p.s About the resolution, are you talking wide screen formats or something? After all, even cheap gfx cards can manage 2560 x 1600 resolution displays, so I think I've not got what you mean :D:D

think he means that you need an expensive graphics card to be able to play at high settings (and therefore high resolutions) while consoles offer the highest setting to play on for much less money

Thanks for filling them in TJ, lets face it, teletext can fill high res screens lol.
Basically saying, that if you'd seen GranTurismo5Prologue running in full 1080hd. You'd be miffed that your pc doesn't look anywhere near as good aswell!
