PS3 has 8 cores, so I don't see why not
Besides which, if people don't start making games that use them soon, intel are going to look silly for charging people for them :safe:

PS3 is a different kettle of fish.

You often do not get any gain with quad cores, infact they can be slower in some cases, or the gain is so minimal as to not make a difference.

As far as Intel looking silly, far from it. I'd say they are looking rather smart atm.

But I stand to be corrected.

Aye, PS3 has one Power PC core plus 7 FPUs. A quad core won't make any difference on a single threaded application, although as Slappeh says several threads can be run at once, albeit in bits. On a mulit-threaded application, however....

Go for W7 and indeed a quad core is nice but rather if you want to use virtualisation like for VMware or VirtualBox.

Memory wise I would opt for 4 GB (2x2 GB) instead. Ofcourse you will not be using the entire 4 GB but future wise it is a good thing. I use about 2 GB of the available 4 when running games. This is because W7 32 (and any other Windows 32 bit OS) you'll can only access 3,25 GB of it. But running a 64 bit OS is always an option to be able to access all of it. The 4 GB is mostly for the future or again if you wanna use virtualisation.

Agreed with Orion...

Windows XP has only recently started supporting DX10 and I have not yet seen it running on XP...

Shattered Horrizon is a DX10 upwards game and it WOULD NOT run on XP...

Should be interesting though to see how this game goes on PC...
