My bro had this exact same prob and the first thing I done was to open the case and clean the fan.

First his PC shutdown, turned it back on... slow as hell... then turned off... turned it on, slow as hell, so I turned it off and cleaned it. Sweet as a nut ^^

I should really look inside my PC and clean my Watercooler on the CPU, that's probs clogged by not and the GFX Card needs a clean too and possibly a fan replacement. > <

Ok, since your CPU were getting that hot, in the worst case it could eventually have taken a bit of damage.
So if theres any more problems now, like display errors, crashes etc you know whats wrong.

Every month, i take out my computer, and clean to fans to make sure that dust wont be a issue.
You should do that too.
