Memory is fecked? Tried taking the memory out and and reinserting it back in?

i managed to install windows..

now i am so confused...
when you go to device manager i saw lots of yellow exp marks on lots of the mobo stuff like network devices and bus stuff

(think they're gone now i installed some drivers)

i felt my system was quite sluggish...
Internet explorer kept crashing when trying to do express install..then doing cusotm installl at one point it randomly resets my pc... and now its handing on windows load up screen..very worrying and i dont have a clue what to do

windows is loading up now... ..hhmm

seems to be ok

apparently the serious error was caused by a device driver

will see what happens now

ppffft. ok so i couldnt install updates for some reason

got a blue screen, cpu usage was at 100% - i remember this being a common bug in xp home.. however i didnt have this problem when i first installed windows last time

im trying another format and reinstall...
i am so stressed

my cpu usage seems to be constantly at 100% i remember this being a problem before in the past on old computer with the o/s

however i never had this problem first time round installing it

since today, i formatted about 3 times and reinstalled 3 times
I cant make the ms updates because the page just keeps crashing probly because the cpu useage is at 100%

dont know what to do.. BOO hoo

i ran memtest86 and no errors..

i tried safe mode, cpu usage is not 100%, its at about 30% or so
but i cannot install windows updates from there...
dam it i dont know what to do

that and i get lots of yellow explamation marks in device manager (which possibly is leading me to mobo faults)

I have been observing you load of posts, about your new computer.
It had lead me to 2 conclusions:

Faulty Mobo. This could be caused by a few things.

This could be heat(Yet i doubt it, depending on your cooling) or your PSU.
When you calculate the power usage of a computer, you need to multipile it by 1.5.
From calculations from the top of my head, all your components in theory, takes 463W. Multipile this by 1,5 and you get 700W.

The heat problem - Im gonna tell you a story.
Once upon time, a small kid got his computer stole. He went down to the store, and bought a new PC, with all this fancy fans in it, and nice high-end system. He bought it home, and buuh, it kept crashing when playing games, and quite random.
He brought it to the shop, that couldn't find any errors. Well, i took it back, and was thinking, that it might have been a PSU problem. It couldn't be heat, as he got an extra case fan.
Right, he goes to the shop, and he explains the problem once again, the guy said that it could be heat, but since there was the extra fan, it couldn't be. So, he putted in the new PSU, and the kid did buy an extra fan, to increase the airflow. He puts in the fan, and trys it all out. Still unstable like hell.
½ Year had passed, with daily crashes. He went angry down to the shop, and asked them to have a look at it.
A few weeks later, the kid gets a call. It was from the shop, asking if the kid had turned arround the extra case fane, that was on the case, which he hadn't.

He ran down to the computer store, where his computer was rock solid. The problem? A FREAKING CASE FAN THAT WAS MOUNTED THE WRONG WAY!
There was alot of outtake of hot air, but no "fresh" air in the case = BANG!!!

So, the options are:
1. Faulty Mobo
2. PSU
3. Heat

chadk do you happen to be aware of how to fix this problem with the cpu being at 100% or do you think that may be mobo fault related... as i do remember that happening before in the past on old pc?

i think my new attempt will be to try and get sp2 and updates merged with old copy of windows on to a fresh cd to install..

Personally I think your mobos shagged, send it back to supplier as RMA for replacment.

chkdsk /p in recovery console

it says found 1 or more error on volume..

could that be significant?

Mike sorry to hear you are still having problems

not being a good experience for you has it building a PC.

One thing though dont be put off by this, think of all the stuff your learning, it can be usefull for later life.

Ok so something is majorloy screwed....regarding your CPU usage always at 100%, im interested do you have your network cable/wireless connected when you first start windows? If so im thinking try it without as there could be another PC thats infected on your network and its just hitting urs when u first start it.

You can get all the windows updates in a single .exe from a site, i shall try and find that.

I would also have to agree with Arma, send that motherboard back if the above dont work, and get a different one. Try MSI thay are very good. In my personal expirience i would stay away form gigabyte.

its hard to pinpoint the exact point cpu usage goes sky high, to do that i would have to format and reinstall windows..again, however since i'd have to connect to the internet in the first place to make the update i am in immediate danger which is just so annoying

i cant remember if it's after i installed nvidia forceware stuff for the motherboard / stuck the ethernet in...

i would have to reinstall to find out i guess, however since my cpu usage went down again after i uninstalled nvidai forceware stuff, and then did a pc restart .. i was then able to make updates for windows, but after that, i had the cpu usage back at 100% again...

what i will try later, is unpluggin my dad and brother from the network, and trying once more...

Does anyone think the yellow exclamation marks suggests mobo faults by the way? or does everyone have stuff like that?
i can't remember if they were always like that or if they developed since my system crashed the over day when i was forced to turn the power off..

Have you tried seeing what procces is using up dso much CPU power?
Ctrl-alt-del? Se if you can kill it, and delete it if necessary...

first thing i did

Nothing that seemed to be hogging the cpu or anything higher than 360kb in memory

since today i have

updated bios to latest version
jumped cmos..
formatted a different way (using recovery console)
checked the disc after format
ran memtest86.iso again...
about to install windows after memtest finishes the 2nd cycle

rite whilst installing it stalled at installing network so i pressed the restart button, it re-did the setup and finished this time..

windows loaded, sluggish and slow.. :/

so it has to be either

motherboard
hard disk
cd of xp

i'd say mobo, how do i go about an RMA ?
