I get that error all the time when I'm writing C++ apps.
It's usually memory pointers/references going ape, it may not be the fault of the ram, the code may be expecting something that isn't there. hardware and/or drivers?

Make sure the device manager & event logs look ok in Computer Management? Has anyone else managed to run it on a mac?

I've tried running it and it's telling me - "this game is currently unavailable. please try again another time" again & again :(

Right I got this message on s.t.a.l.k.e.r and the way i was told to deal with it was to up the page file aka virtual memory
It's normally 1.5 times the RAM of your system however some games (mainly newer ones) need to make use of more of this.
Dont ask what it does cos i dont know, but it solved my problem :D

That's the direct line
Microsoft Help Page

1.
Open System in Control Panel.

2.
On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.

3.
In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.

4.
Under Virtual memory, click Change.

5.
Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change.

6.
Under Paging file size for selected drive, click Custom size, and type a new paging file size in megabytes in the Initial size (MB) or Maximum size (MB) box, and then click Set.

Maybe up it to twice your RAM and see if that helps :D

Well, increased the VM?page file/Swap file.
Used to have to do that years ago when recording with a PC :)
Unfortunately didnt help.....

Only games that work are Steam ones (Valve)- so css HL2 and hopefully TF2.

QWET BF1942 TMU all just fail to load. :(

I give up. Valve, what you got for me ..... orange box will keep me busy for a while.....then hopefully ETQW will be out for the mac :)

Have you tried installing it from htttp://www.enemyterritory.com/ ?

It got me further than via the steam client, but now it's telling me that "the current video card / driver combination does not support the necessary features: GL_ARB_fragment_program GL_ARB_fragment_shader". I've got an old nvidia Gforce4 ti 4600, so it's probably time to spend some cash

Is this message consistent even after reboot?

COULD be RAM issues. But chances seems very small, since you dont seem to have problems with other programs.

Steam is done in C++. Blame that. As pointed out above, its a fubared pointer.

Try some of these :

Disable antivrus whilst in game

Re-install of directx 9.0C (full installer not that web downloader crap)

Disconnect all peripherals from the machine (including dongles etc), leaving just mouse and keyboard.

omfg Arma - you are the feckin nuts!!!! How STOOPID of me - I have a dongle for Logic Pro on my Mac.....theres no logic pro for the windows and its what i write all my music in - it's tiny and i'd completely forgotton it was plugged in round the back........took it out and EVERYTHING WORKS !!!!

I know alot of you are gonna think it's pretty dumb of me not to remove it in th past 50 hours or so (spread over months!) of trying to sort this problem - i removed graphics cards, ram, swapped everything around, - bought a new GFX card thinking that would sort it - (good excuse though - it's a 512mg ati1900xt, re formatted and installed Bootcamp and XP and in the end just gave up cos i thought it was inherrant to running XP on this Mac - didnt even see the dognle in the back of the machine (just blind to it - dont know why - and it is VERY small)) !!! No wonder there's no threads out there for the problem i was having - Logic pro's £800 and not a typical app to have on the same computer as loads of pc games :)

I am SOOOOOOOO chuffed. ETQW runs at High on all with about 60 fps.......oh my feckin god!!!!! <<<<<< do i seem excited :)

All the hours you spent on it is whats making you happy Colt :), if you had found the problem instantly you wouldn't be so chuffed. So it slightly justifies wasting 50 hours for the joy you get now :P
