Whats the make and model of the router and Wifi adapter.

1. Post the output from ipconfig/all on here.
2. Have you tried to connect the PC to the router with a cable?
2a. Is service pack 3 on the desktop but SP2 on the Laptop?
3. As Nicey says disable the other nework card, if its on the mainboard do it in the bios.

If point 2 doesn't work then:
4. In the command prompt window, type ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew
5. Sometimes it sets the DNS the same as the gateway, make sure they match your hosting companies DNS, on mine its 194.168.8.100 and 194.168.4.100 for Virgin.
6. Your winsock or network core files have been corrupted, if 1 works then it isn't that. This may help: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html
7. Have you got non windows firewall?
8.After you've exhausted everything else try http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/downloa ... s/combofix

The best wireless connections are the ones you don't accidentally lock yourself out of. :o7:

]i wondered if you got that text or not.. lol

yeh, soo, i should probably be banned from GCHQ for this... i locked myself out of the router :( first on the pc (hence this post) and then when trying to find out why my pc couldn't connect, i removed "DESKTOP" from the trusted devices, not realising that although it said desktop it was actually the wifi adapter itself, i realised what i'd done as soon as i clicked apply.. but too late, soo kinda just shouted abuse at my pc for 5 minutes then gave up.

but.. ive just paid a fiver for a days access to btfon.. seems to be working allright soo far :)

You got your own connection now?

Had to post that question, mainly as I was pissing myself laughing regarding locking yourself out of their unsecured wireless network
