You need to format the drive using WDs own utility - had to do the same for my 300GB Maxtor.

thanks..sorted my hdd out, did it a quick way in less than a minute.

still need to figure out a cheap way to get my jostick working..

and more importantly. my nvidia 7900GT keeps crashing on the video stress test in CSS on full graphics...HDR on full etc :? why would such a powerful card do this..

i have tried 91.31 drivers... they result in crash, monitor turns off..just freezes after the first hurdle of objects, i have to press power button once and windows will safely shut down.

the ones which came on the cd 83.91, which are older, dont crash my system, but some small glitches on stress test.

the only CSS map where there is a problem is cs_militia where this happens if i have textures on high (or high settings) can't quite work out the exact combination for errors, but it works ok on medium settings.

Image

this error occurs on both sets of drivers...

:?

so im a bit confused as to why such a 'leet' card is doing this.
(all settings on high)

my temperatures are fine aswell.. about 48-56 degrees.

that looks like a heating issue, your video fan working?

1. check that video card fan is working.
1b. check that the graphiocs card is seated in the slot correctly, if unsure take it out and put it back in.
2. check that all your system fans are working.
3. double check the DIRECT OF FLOW of your case fans, if one or two are blowing against the main flow it will overheat for sure.
4. use the drivers which came with the card on the CD, they are the only ones that the manufacturer will tell you to use because they are the only ones the card have been tested with. (only upgrade drivers with ones that have specific fixes for things which you need.)
5. becareful when swapping lots of drivers, use a driver uninstall utility, like drivercleaner or better still re-install windows completely.
6. make sure you have the motherboard/chipset drivers installed.

done all that para except take out the card and place it in the slot again just to see if its ever so slightly out, done it already twice.

im hoping it's just a driver issue that will soon be fixed..as opposed to physical damage or anything like that.

it no longer crashes on stress test anyway with old drivers

just cs_militia... hmmm

During my overclocking tests (of 7800GTs) I have seen some artifacting before but never as much as that and never has it actually stopped the game from running. Artifacting usually shows individual polygons being rendered with the wrong texture or not at all.

I once forgot to turn on my water supply when I was watercooling only the graphics (I had a fan on the CPU at the time, more testing, long story). The temp went up to 100C and the game slowed right down but even then didn't lock up. I have had oblivion lock up on numerous occasions without any temp issues or artifacts. So to summarise.

high temps = artifacts
artifacts = warning signs
lockups = game code / driver issues

What you are seeing seems to indicate a faulty card but I wouldn't know how to prove it. It's beyond what I have seen before really, could you try to get the card replaced? Good luck Mike.
