how to record direct sound whilst playing a mpeg video file and convert a selection of audio to wav.

but how is this done exactly i cant work it out, apparently you can use sound recorder in windows

You might need a little bit of familirisation with the program as it has lots of bells and whistles but you can record 'what you hear' in Options/Control Properties/Volume/"what you hear" so set up the recording length you want, press record and capture to your hearts content. Lots of effects and stuff to play around with and you can cut and paste and all sorts.

It records in wav but you can save it in lots of formats
