Post subject: | USB Drive |
Hey all. I have a problem and need some help My bro (scorchedbee) has just got a new hd, and I have gotten his old one (as its 40gb bigger). I have put this into my computer, installed windows and everythings fine. So, I decide to put my old hd back in as the second drive, so I can retrieve a few things from it. The drive apears in the bios, but wont allow access to it inside windows and says it needs formatting. So, I tried putting the hd into my USB enclosure. I plugged the usb cable in, it finds it ok. I go into my computer, its gone!! lol If I go to Control Panel --> Admin Tools --> Computer Management, go to storage. But the only thing I can do with my hd (usb now lol), is delete the partition. Am I going to have to format it, or can I get it working?? Regards, Hunter |

You dont set it in a USB enclosure. You leave the pin out, so the USB can assign it.? Thats what the manual said anyway (and it worked on my old hd I put in the enclosure ) |

It sounds like you are attempting to connect an additional system disk (original), in parallel with your current (new), system disk. If you're lucky, it may be a simple case of doing the following (under XP): 1 ) Right-click 'My Computer' 2 ) Select 'Manage' 3 ) Click on 'Disk Management' 4 ) You should be able to see the original disk in the list (check by size), with or without a drive letter, if not someone else will be along shortly 5 ) Right-click the original disk 6 ) Select 'Change drive letter and paths' 7 ) Click 'Change' 8 ) Change the drive letter to any free letter under 'Assign the following drive letter' 9 ) Okay everything and open 'My Computer' to check the change has taken Ideally you should then transfer/burn any files that you want to keep and format the drive. |
