My friend wants to get a computer for home use, it must be pretty fast and run all current games pretty well.

I'd like him to have something quiet and reliable with some power to punch out.

Budget is £500-£800.

Custom or prebuilt?

Well, ripping off the one i've just got....

MSI K9N mobo
AMD 64 3200 AM2
1 gig XMS ram (667mhz, 5400)
7600GT
250GB SATAII
DVD all singing all dancing

plus monitor case and so on and so forth should take you to about £750, certainly no more

Basically needs everything inside the case. inc HD's and FD etc etc.

Would like to see him go for a Radeon setup as you seem to get more bang for your buck so motherboard would have to be crossfire ready for futureproofing methods.

Seems I have a bit of a sweet tooth when it comes to putting together a list as my total for him came to £964.88

corsair don't do a cheap 2gb matched pair, so [url=http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/66399] should do the job (two of them)

more expensive, but means you still keep two free slots

Might reccomend that but with crucial ram and a few extra little things for cooling etc =).

I've gotta put the thing together for him as well, and install windoze -_-.

The sad thing about today is, it its so much cheaper to go to someone like Dell for a pc in that price range.

Dont get me wrong, me personally would never go to them for a machine for myself, I will always build one. But whenever anyone asks me now about building a PC i direct them to dell.

1) if the hardware goes pop, they have an easy warranty
2) they dont phone you every week when they run into a problem
3) will probably get more for your money (even though its shitty dell h/w)
4) Comes bundled with lots of legal software which again makes sures there is no agro when it comes to windows geniune advantage.
