I used Acronis migrate easy to clone my old IDE drive to a larger SATA drive but when I plug the new one in by itself it says it cant find /ntldr.

Acronis said it copied over the mbr so it should be a matter of it working straight away shouldnt it.

I havent tried to plug both drives in at the same time because I wasnt sure of having 2 drives that are essentially the same being plugged in together. Oh and I cant remember the administrator password so I cant use the recovery console. :(

Any help appreciated

i think you problem lies within the boot.ini file, the string which is pointing to your windows directory is incorrect, its usually something like:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

i think its something todo with the 0 and 1 in there, I could be wrong though.

No it wasnt that. IT just couldnt find ntldr even though it was there.

I have done a nice clean install on the new drive and have plugged the old one back in to play games this arvo amd will do the program install tomorrow.

Personally I'd attempt installing grub, this is typically a Linux bootloader but is perfectly at home booting Windows. I think you would need to make a small partition to hold the grub files. A Mepis Live cd has all you would need to make the partition and install Grub into it, don't ask me how though I'd wing it!
