For some reason i cant get windows to install, it gets past the first stage, copying the files onto the hdd, then as usual it reboots, normally after the pc reboots it starts intalling Xp, but for some strange reason, it just stands still, if the cd stays in, it just loops back to the setup?. |

Did you install to an existing partition or a brand new one? Is it an over the top installation? |

This happened to me before. I just used another disc and it worked fine. Is the XP disk scratched at all? |

I'm sure my brother found a way around it, I just can't remember what he did (apart from switch disks like I just did). As I remember, it does take a long time to load up after the first stage of installation. Try just restarting the PC manually, and it will go back to booting from the CD. It should say: "a current windows installation is already installed" (due to the files already been copied). Press R to repair the installation. That might work |

Found this: Quote: My system does that with XP setup too. If I wait and let the time expire
for the cdrom boot, XP setup loses its place and wants to start over. What I have to do to get past this is wait until the initial stages of XP setup restart the system. Then go back into BIOS and set the boot option back to hard drive first, cdrom drive second. When I exit, XP setup picks up where it left off instead of wanting to starting over. |

Silly question but is the HDD listed as a boot device in bios, after xp installs some info it then needs to boot of the HDD then in goes back to the cd, so if u havent selected the HDD as a boot option it wont load then re-tries the cd and starts all over again |
