Post subject:  weird behaviour

have been playing tomb raider 7 as it came free with my graphics card, although some weird things have been happening recently

i'v had my usb optical mouse just cut out, the red LED disappears and it wont come back until i either pull it out or restart the pc

however since then, i've experienced the background music slow down in to slow mo before stopping completely, and then my pc froze in a loop, so i needed to reset it.

now, my suspicion is that my 450w smart power 2 psu might not be able to cope with the power demand of all the components?, mainly because the mouse cut out?

what do you guys reckon?

i've only noticed this with tomb raider, so i can't say if it's just this game or not, i have only played titan quest, red orchestra, css, and tomb raider on my new pc

maybe it's a stupid game bug, but i doubt it

so im using built in sound on the mobo, and the usb is also in the mobo, so....thats why i thought with the 2 crashing together that it looks worrying

edit: i am also using latest drivers available, and i'm running the 1.2 patch for tombraider

well according to this i dont think i am draining my psu, as i only reckon its 350 - 80 watts max leaving a lot for safe guard

maybe it was just a game bug/crash..with it using latest graphics and HD sound engines and all

the psu is fine, the mouse is probably borked - loose connection in lead can mean the mouse will turn off if jolted the wrong way, and needs to be recconected - one of my mice did it after particularly rough treatment.

try it with a different mouse

as for the sound...game bug probably, but try updating your sound drivers

AND STOP CALLING IT A GENERIC PSU!! :P

wel i dont reckon the mouse is broke, but some reason the mouse and sound died together ... which suggests motherboard?

but then again probably connected in game crash..

not had any problems since soo.. i'll ignore it and treat it as a one off

That sounds like it may just work.

If you think about how small the conductors in a mouse cable are and how much abuse those conductors get, it would be hard to rule out a faulty conductor with out a lot of testing. The sound problem could be completely unrelated.

My copperhead has a problem also, I have to unplug it after every power up. But I knew that before I bought it, it just a known feature of that mouse.

playing that demo of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic which is quite gpu intensive

another stress on my pc on full, the mouse thing happened again, except this time it didnt conk out completely, just every few seconds..so then i quit the game, loaded it up again, turned options on video settings like HDR off, loaded up again, and it didn't do it...

So my theory is PSU isn't powerful enough to support all the components when i play new games on uber settings, only just anyway..

reckon that sounds logical?

doesnt do it on CSS at all
has done it on tomb raider, on a high detail HDR part of the game..
has just done the mouse part on dmomam

google, people are reporting the same problems but no solutions

It has to be one of the following
psu not good enough - but my psu calculator - should be fine in theory
mobo is faulty
mouse is faulty
USB2 problem / driver / windows
processor busy elsewhere, maybe too much paging..

gonna try a diff optical mouse if i can

O RLY... seems im not the only 1... People are having same exact problems as me.. seems it is a mobo issue...

Dont know what to do really..

experienced the mouse usb lock ups only on games however, on 2 different games..dark messiah and tomb raider, not CSS ...

I'm not sure you have enough power....but i'm by no means an expert..
you should look at more than wattage of the PSU.....is the PSU actually any good???
your computer seems more powerfull than mine, and mine conked out with less that 450w while playing oblivion....
(had to upgrade my PSU just to play that game....of course that was to facilitate the new graphics card...which i got just to paly that game! :D)

the PSU calculator seems a bit off aswell....i had a 250 watt PSU. got an X800 GTO and needed to get a 450 PSU before it would run properly....
the calculator says it would only take an extra 97 :|

*off topic ftw*

you can stop complaining about bad graphics now :D

I'm inclined to agree with regards your psu..................

well im pretty convinced by that thread that the problem either lies within motherboard or some heat problem - heatsink if that isn't measured monitored.. no idea..

since people also said they upgraded to a 550 watt psu and still had the problem anyway... im cancelling out psu for the moment

gonna have to wait for bios updates.. or consider replacing board which I seriously don't really want..

or flashing the bios?? i have no idea about that though.. need to research

having just read that thread, i would seriously consider getting rid of the mobo and getting your money back

same, but how disruptive would that be :(
and how long is it in warranty for?
reckon a bios update or flash may fix it in future?
