Post subject:  Wired Network + Wireless

I have a wired network through the house and i was wondering if it is possible for one of the connected computers to have a wireless adapter aswell as a wired one.

So if i was to use a laptop with a wireless adaptor i could join the network through the computer with wireless adaptor?

Hope that made sense.

Thanks

technically yes - in reality it would be a pain to get working.
You are easier off buying a wireless ADSL/broadband router, or an access point though.

Yeah tried convincing my dad to do that but he said its not needed and i have to agree with him to a certian extent.

Only due to the reliability of it.

I would use it for having a laptop in my room, have a private network over the two.

You will all sorts of fun with NAT and IP addressing that way - trust me.

Post subject:  NAT`ed NAT

have the first internal network on say 10.11`s
the laptop and other machine on 192.168`s
and set that up as your default gateway for the laptop

Its a completly crap idea, theres no justification for turning a computer into a router.

A) You would have to spend money on a wireless card,
B) Then you have to rely on crappy XP to bridge connection and get the routing right.
C) Then you have to have that machine on all the time you want to use the wireless network.
D) Also the overhead of managing the router will impact the performance of the said bridging PC.

An average cost of a wireless card os 20 quid, for an extra 30 quid you can buy a wireless adsl router which nulliefies the points of crapness listed above.

computers as routers = ftl - since i started using internet connection sharing to connect to internet my pings gone from 4 to 40, will slow you down
