i was playing fear, usb locks up

windows doesnt respond

so i turn off at power

i open up my case to examine some stuff, clear some dust off, make sure stuff is securely fastened etc

turn pc back on, windows loads really really slow, then it kept doing Found new hardware.. forgot what exactly, then it just kept doing it in a cycle...

then it froze, forced to turn pc off completely at power again, turned back on again and it doesnt get past the windows load screen, just freezes, no error messages...

help!!"!

If its having a problem with the USB, double check the BIOS settings; one time the USB bus was disabled for some reason, it was driving me crazy as basically none of my USB stuff worked

Have you tried booting in safe mode (restart and press F8 repeatedly as its loading until you get to the menu.) Hopefully you'll be able to sort it out from there.

Even if you can't, I wouldn't think a reformat is nessessary, you can do a windows "repair" install.

Sounds weird ive never come across that problem myself.

Ive been having a few problem also though, my comp locks up completly whenever i watch streamed videos but only through some flash embedded ones.

:? :?

I seriously havnt a clue why.

But i did clean up alot of dust and it hasnt done it yet.

Check the inside of your computer mike to see if theres dust on the heatsink. (unless you've done that already)

I got loads off mine.

I think your PSU isn't enough.

atm i dont think its a psu prob

it's a mobo problem which causes usb lock ups and pcie voltage to rise, im not alone its on abit forums and there are some apparent fixes but i dont want to try them yet until people confirm them.

i managed to format my hd then when installing windows i got a

tcpip.sys error HEx message, might be because i have the ethernet plugged in still so i pulled it out an am trying again (repair this time)

it better install this time and without problems i dam well hope

Dont know if it would be the ethernet plug but im not sure.

Ive always got everything plugged in when installing windows as when it boots up for the first time it will install all the drivers needed.

And if your connected throught the net by the ethernet plug it will start up yer internet, thats me though. :P

you should have tried these prior to reformatting, you had nothing to lose really, in fact you might have gained a trouble free pc, if it continues to cause some problems mike, i would honestly say try those fixes

Good luck anyway :!:

When I had USB lockup problems on a chaintech motherboard caused by overclocking I had to completely clear the BIOS by taking out the motherboard battery out and letting the cmos run out of power. It wil revert to its default so you may need to flash any upgraded BIOS back on.

THe USB didnt play up until I tried the nvidia software overclocking utility

yer well on the abit forum loads of people have same problems i have told you about with usb lockups and random restarts, and are complaining about the bios needing an update to resolve some of these issues...abit seem to be sat quiet about it though, a new bios is out but it doesn't resolve my issues so im gonna wait for the new one it seems

to upgrade your bios you need to flash it and jump cmos ..theres 4 ways you can do it, i'll find a tutorial for it later if anyone is interested.

o so yer... after that blue screen i took out the wire, then tried a REPAIR...which i think was a bad idea as when windows finished installing it asked me for a username password - i was like WTF... i'm guessing you can't do a repair if never had an account or domain created before you broke somewhere along the line in windows

so im doing format reinstall atm.. hopefully i will have no problems when it reinstalls.. except teh known issues with my mobo i mentioned above
