to stream video from pc to xbox 360 you need mce

now ive found shops where you can buy mce stand alone

can i fresh install it?

and why is it so cheap?

mce 2005 is 113 euros in some shops. thats crazy

i read an article recently about this (will try and find a link) basically the idea of a 'digital' home hasnt really taken off and to entice fresh blood they reduced the price

mce does the basics, not great for a pc, but if its just for media stuff then its fine, also you can set it up as a dual boot with winxp on the same system

All true, but the amount of cak it fills the systray with is boggling and the inevitable use of proprietry formats for storing TV programs in...

hence the dual boot, its not really suitable for a replacment for winxp, but vista may be a better option when its available, but i dont know much about it yet

I ran the vistaupgrade advisor last night, it recommended the business variant which I had my eye on anyway  The home premium is essentially vista with MCE slapped on top, whereas the business one is mercifully clear of all that and lets you use RDP which I need for work and troubleshooting, etc.

I think most power users with XBoxes will require the 'ultimate' edition tho :?
