i have used winamp for a long time and not really had too much of a problem with it, it's quite low on cpu usage, reasonable size skins (always been using spinner) fairly good

but some of the custom skins are just near impossible to read and look a bit krap

whats everyone else's favourite programs that i should look at ?

vlc.....it does nearly anything you want it, uses minimal memory, runs multi window, plays ANY (and i mean any...well not really, but theres only a few obscure ones it can't do - it does actually support real media player files (damn you BBC)) codec etc etc

same here 8)

bs player's quite good aswell, but with vlc you won't need it as it just plays everything you'll ever need playing :D

(vlc player doesn't allow you to see the progress bar when at full screen though, so if you want to skip ahead to a different section using the timeline whatever progress bar you have to go out of full screen first)

I use MS Media Player 11 Beta, think it's pretty smooth + my multimedia buttons on the laptop works with it

I use Winamp/Realplayer for music
WMP/VLC/Realplayer/DivX player (depending on the filetype and what I wanna get outta it) for video

those skins just look a bit over the top, i like it square, compact, nice colours, easy on the eyes, readbable buttons

look at polaris_Clear.. thats almost the perfect winamp skin except for some reason the green graphical error on the playlist window.... Arma said he had that aswell so i dunno if it can be fixed.

i'm personally not a fan of winamp because i feel its OTT for what it is - a media player...if i'm using it to watch videos, i'll be looking at the videos, not the player, and if i'm listening to music, i'll have it in the background...

i don't know how much memory it uses compared to VLC, but i should imagine its a bit more....

it's less over the top if you use a really basic skin like spinner or polaris clear

and you need to enable alpha blending in Preferences :)

check mem usage though in task manager...it'd be interesting to see how efficient they are.... (WMP is hugely bulky i think)
