a motherboard is like the starting block to building a pc, all the other component like processor and graphics card and memory all slot onto the motherboard.

an ethernet cable is used for networks.

Ethernet is like a net that catches ether, so you can go to sleep.

Basically, he means that instead of a wireless connection (to your assumed wireless router) you should try a wired connection, with an rj45 cable from your pc to the router.

Ethernets covers networks using wires, its sorta a whole standards thing as well, but in your case, yeah he means use the wire instead of wireless, because you should get a more consitant throughflow of data.

A motherbaord I usually describe it like the chassis of a car (at which point the business person asking the question falls asleep and I can sneak of for a brew), everything else goes on it and like a good chasis a good mootherboard can actually improve performance.
