PROCESSOR: AMD athlon64 939 4400x2
MOTHERBOARD: Asus A8N-SLI Premium
POWER: 400watt cheapo
MEMORY: 3x1gb corsiar xms
GRAPHICS: nvidia 7900gt
SOUND: Creative X-Fi Audigy Fata1ty Edition
MONITOR: Samsung Syncmaster 930bf
HARD DRIVES: 1x 250gb maxtor thing
MOUSE: Logitech G7
EXTRA'S: lots of blue neons and fans

INTERNET CONNECTION: 5.6MB |BT

ok my pc runs fine, not a problem. I can browse the forums for hours, play music, be on msn. BUTwhen i play games, i can only play for around 5 minutes but then my pc either restarts or just freezes. I dont get a bsod, it just freezes, say if in in cs:s it will freeze screenshot style but if im playing music in itunes the music will continue to play even though the games froze. I cannot alt-tab or use the windows key, its just froze

my temps for cpu are around 42 in game and 34 idle
my graphic card is around 42 idle and 48 ingame

i have scouted the forums and found that a power supply may be the problem, but im asking you guys first before i plumit and spend £70ish on a new psu.

i also have 3gb of ram, 2x 512 corsair xms and 2x 1gb kingston 400mhz ram. I have checked in bios and mem seems to be fine in dual channel mode :S

this problem only happeneed when i went from a
asrockdual sata 2 and a 3700 with 2gb ram (kingston)
to
asus a8n-sli premium 4400 x2 with 3gb of ram (kingston + corsair).

i have tried to give as much detail as possible, please either confirm its a psu issue or give me some advice. :?

*edit*
also using a 20-24 pin adaptor on my psu.

thanks for any help guys :)

go to system startup and recovery in control panel ..

tick it so that it doesn't automatically restart, next time it restarts it will instead or should go to a blue screen of death with a hex code..

write it down and google it.

control panel > system > startup and recovery (settings) > turn off auto restart. apply

woot! its a memory problem, soo doesnt like being mixed, ill try turning off dual channel see if that helps :)

hmm a choice 1 gb of very good corsair xms ram or 2gb value kingston ram :( not quite what i wanted but nevermind :)

*EDIT*

no doesnt like the kingston at all always freezes :( Really quite annoyed as thats £130 of ram there going to waste now :( and i have gone from 2gb to 1gb :(

hey mate

have you tried pulling out the two 512 sticks and seeing whether it sorts it?

stick the 1gb modules in each channel

well ill sell them to my dad he has my old mobo for christmas, so sell after crimbo, then ill buy 2x512 corsair xms :)

have you ran memtest86??

google it, comes in .iso format

I sometimes get Hex errors or DEP error blue screens, or random ones that might mean motherboard or gpu... but always rarely so they don't bother me anymore...

although my ram on memtest86 doesn't show as faulty after hours of running it, the HEX code says otherwise when googled, it's rather weird..

i agree, power issues, check the max ampage from the socket, also check wat each watt requirement is per component, i would say a 550 watt would be good, spend no less than £50 on a PSU. Same thing happened to me, the PSU was about 2 years old and had a prob, but i didnt know, my GFX card lost power as did the rest of my system, the MOBO said "NO, I WANT MORE POWER" and reset.

aye i only have a cheapo one at the moment, seems better using the sata as a secondary and a 80gb ide as primary, still freezes every now and again but comes back to life in around 3 minutes.

ill be getting a new psu when i have payed my mum back for the money on my car (just deposit :) 0

I reckon it's PSU - make sure that your gfx card is hanging off of it's own power cable and not sharing it with the HDD's

I have that board, I'm just waiting for prices to drop before I get a 512MB 7950GT or maybe one of the 8xxx's 8)
