Dudes, not yet, but one day I plan to replay one of my 7800GTs with an 8800 whatever with Vista. I have noticed that 8800 drives are separate from the previous geforce ones (new tech etc). Can any anticipate any issues running both drivers at the same time? It goes without saying that I wont expect SLI but it would be very useful to monitor temps, chat windows etc with the 7800GT monitors while gaming on the 8800. Second question would the second 7800GT work in the spare 4X slot (if it physically fits) for 6 monitor support? I used to run two 7800GTs in SLI and a Matrox Millenium PCI for monitoring temps. but these drivers weren't both trying to take over desktop management, forceware tends to do that. |

if the drivers dont distroy one another than yes the 6 monitor thing will work. but surely you dont need all that, cant you just use the 8800 to run both the game screen AND a desktop on another screen? sure it would eat into your game speed a little, but its a 8800! that or sell you 7800 and keep the matrox for the second screen thing, as you dont need a 7800 to run a desktop. shrek |

The new drivers I should imagine add physics graphics processing support...the rest should be the same, so it may work... But I don't think x16 fits in x4.... You could try lopping a few pins off I suppose |

Good points, I guess when the time comes I'll give it a go. If it doesn't work I can always sell em. The matrox is too slow for full screen video, has trouble scrolling test tbh! ps Forgot both outputs would be active on the 8800, too used to gaming in SLI with only one port active. Don't really want to use SLI ever again to inconvieniant. hey maybe the second (third) card(s) can do physics |

But I don't think x16 fits in x4.... You could try lopping a few pins off I suppose i googled it foo it's the same slot just slower (which still works) (unless i googled badly ) |

those gits said pci-e 4x could be used for it this is where pci-e gets confusing. each slot has two numbers, the physical sizes: x1 x2 x4 x8/16 this is how big the slot is physically, and therefore what card will fit. smaller cards will fit and run in bigger slots (as far as i know) then the electrical size, the speed at which the slot runs, again x1 x2 x4 x8 x16 now a 7800 card will run in a x4 electrical slot (at a reduced performance) whereas the new 8800 needs at least a x8 electrical slot to run but both cards need a x8/16 sized slot. that is possibly the worst explainasion of anything ever. shrek |

Bit accademic for me though, the 4x slot is next to the 1x slot and the new coolers are 2 slots wide, it wont fit. nice coolers though. gonna wc my number 2 rig for silence, the main rig was neer that quiet because the chipset radiator needed a lot of cooling, Ill try to take a pic. |
