If your on adsl..and your line is unstable/stable.... you can tweak the settings
of your adsl line to improve bandwidth/download speed/stability.
By using DMT tool (http://dmt.mhilfe.de/) You can adjust the line quality..which is done auto at the telephone exchange.. but not to the best settings...)
anyway..i managed to get another mb line speed out of it... and more stability.
The site is in german... but the program install is in english.
Check first whether your modem is compatible with the program... there are about 6 or 7 versions for different modems..

oh ps..... this is perfect for those who have upgraded to 8md dsl max and have now crap connection speeds...

Actually I heard that adsl max is fully rate adaptive (RADSL), meaning that it adapts the speed of download best suited to your line conditions, but if your getting a better performance increase by using this tool then go for it :)

yeah.... well after the 10 day training period..... it set my line ip profile to 500k based on line conditions...... so i swapped my netgearmax n(only 105 quid) for a speedtouch 585 30 quid... so i could mess with the settings...

anyway.... on first connect and syn...it still rated at sync at 1.3mb..with a line profile of 500k.... but after some tweaking..and not a lot i might add...
i now have a profile of 2meg... with an actual syc of 3.6 mb..
Might have been flukey.. and had good weather conditions..but the noise ratio(snr)...hasnt dropped massively... so hopefully..might be able to get a bit more out of it..

...
cheers for the comments and link A.
