when you choose which partition to install on, you get the option to delete the partition as well. Delete it, recreate it, and reformat it |

but other than that, i would have thought the slow format during installation should be enough. also, make sure nothing sneaks out on the backup disks. |

Boot from your XP CD. Go into recovery console then do a full format (this might take a while depending on size of hdd), not a quick format via this cmd line: format c: /fs:ntfs After that has finished do a chkdsk on the hdd via this cmd line: chkdsk /p |

When you do a full install, instead of doing a Quick format do a normal one, this will check the hdd for errors while its formatting. |

O o also, biggest problem really is getting your windows security updates ASAP. so as soon as you have installed his windows and before connecting to the internet.... remember to install Anti virus (avg is free, and anti-spyware program like lavasoft ad-aware it would also really help if you had a stringent firewall.. but as soon as you connect to the net, make sure you get those windows security updates ASAP or you'll get viruses/worms everywhere if you leave it ... |

what i said also can be done without typing those commands, someone else told me to do that, not sure why, think he was just showing off his uber geek knowledge of commands, just make sure you dont do quick format, thats the main thing |
