Until he actually reviews a bit more than simple aesthetics - its not much of a review at all. I

It doesn't really tell you anything other than his hardware isn't working very well (driver related perhaps, it'd help if he actually mentioned his set up that it's being tested upon too - which he fails to do, as well as what Vista recommends as well) and that's about it. IMO a poor review, with far too much left out of it - and appearing far too quickly to be a "omg it's stolen apple ideas".

Sheesh, apple stole other ideas - everyone uses good design ideas. Maybe they employed better interface designers and spent some time researching?! I don't see car manufacturers re-inventing the wheel, they all use the same design because it's best - a tube :P Apple (if they really did come up with those designs first) obviously had good solid user interface design, MS is playing catch up.

The guy hints at more to come, so when that is posted - please let us know. I think that'll be a hell of a lot more interesting that the present review

lol - thats a pretty abysmal review... especially the "retail confusion" part.

Im liking it at the moment, havent had a crash yet and the only problems ive had is Windows Live Messenger doesn't work, go figure and I have got the right drivers installed on my mother board to be compatible with the sleep mode.

There is a lot to like and a lot to dislike but on the whole I think it is better than XP.

I wouldn't pay for it mind - thanks academic alliance :)

if i can say this very quitely (and Chad - look away) it makes a nice change to see something vaguely positive written about apple on this forum :) I've used both for years and i love osx with quite a passion (tho never shout it too loudly here). If i needed any convincing that at least as far as interface and design goes, osx had it right, it came in the form of my motherinlaw  She's in her 70's and had never used a computer - but could type.

I bought her an e-mac (a basic but fine machine if you dont wanna game!). Within a month she had her own photo collection, web site and had met 2 likeminded local people on-line. She now (about 2 years later) has it as the heart of her digital life (in a cottage in isolation - which doesn't have central heating). All her music plays through it and into her stereo, she watches DVD's sends mail....etc..... AND SHE HAS NEVER HAD A CRASH - not one.......nor have i had to tell her much - it's soooo self explanatory. She's on her third man found on t'net and this ones lasted 12 months :D The software that comes with a mac may no have all the bells and whistles of some....but it really works and works easily and well.

I hope microsoft do learn from Apple in this area - sounds like they have. I'm personally looking forward to trying Vista once the crashes are ironed out.......w00t a fantastic operating system for gaming/surfing - with a cool thought out interface.

vista to me seems quite stable, it can have its slow moments, but alos i installed vista on our spare machine, (my old 3700, 6800gt etc) and icomparted to my main mahcine 4400x2 7900gt, is god dam aweful, really sluggish, does vista take better use of fual core cpus?

i have vista, i like it, thats right, i like it, its faster, easier and just as good on frames now the new nvidia drivers are out. So many quick to judge based on betas and early test copies.

Also, people who nock it because it is too system heavy are quite hypociritcal, they read pcgamer and see that a new game is coming out in 6 months, they see there PC can run the game, but would benefit from some more RAM, or a new GFX card, they save there pennies and buy a system upgrade and then buy the game, yet people dont do the same for vista, they automatically expect it to run on every machine ever made!!!

This may sound synical, but those who slate Microsoft products in reviews are usually on the recieving end of some free Apple software.

I can see a lot of people waiting for the next MS OS, though 3 years, hmm, said the same thing untill the XP SP2 problems. But for those who do wait, they wont be able to play DX10 games, or experience the best from new software coming out.

For the time being let me say this, Vista is a good OS, out of the box security, beautiful GFX and a lots of goodies packed in. Although the point was made that my system is a little higher spec that others, so i may be at an advantage.

I know this wont help, but my messenger didn't work with Vista either, but I did something which I can't remember, and now it works..

Google it, the answers are there :D.

There was a similiar one written by the IT Commentator guy for the BBC, who ripped Apple for their "Our iTunes users shouldn't get Vista because our software is incompatible at this time"

He laid into Apple pretty hard for it's very poor attitude in bothering to sort their iTunes thing out.
