Post subject:  Graphics cards and power supplys

Hey, I'm thinking of getting an x850xt graphics card, but I only have a 300 watt power supply at the moment. Seric told me that I should prob get a new psu at a higher wattage, but I'm not sure what to get...

Could someone point me in the direction of a decent power supply that doesnt cost too much money?

Thanks,

Recoil

I have a 500W Antec Phantom (semi fanless) and it's almost too hot to touch, great for heating up the case. :x

a few mates and I were discusing this, the heavier the PSU, generally it is better, so what ever you do, dont get the ebuyer extra value PSU, ok for some, not for gamers, spend around £30+

how much have you got to spend?

i was running my pc on a crappy 300w for a week and that includes an 8800gtx and a c2d,granted i dont think it would have lasted to long but hey

before that i was running a standard 450 and it ran no problems for weeks but then i started to oc and it blew up

modular will enable you to keep it a lot longer, as when they decide to change the ATX spec you're more likely to be able to update your PSU with new cables

antec happen to do 500W modulars....

i'm surprised you didn't destroy the entire system

all that on a 300 watt one?

this is an online psu calculator, it's not 100% perfect, but should give you a good idea of how much you need :)
