happens on my dads computer which is a dell.. and on mine which i built myself

so its gotta be an issue with xp..

when u stick in a USB device.. it occasionally may say "this device has malfunctioned" or may say "Not recogised..."
normally with mobile phones or usb connection printers.

it does work eventually say if you restart your pc or the device... or try a different usb slot...

is this a common known problem that can be addressed?

im using USB2 drivers and ports, have service pack 2.. xp home

i only had that with my ipod but thats because the ipod was broke so yeah... are you sure its just not the USB?

Happens to me all the time, really annoying. Always happens with my phone usually, not so many problems with other hardware. I think it's just down to crap software that the manufactuers release with their products.

that is true with sonyericsson software, i use a memory stick converter now, soooooo much faster
