depends on the screen really - you probably won't see much difference as the D/A then A/D conversion on VGA doesn't degrade the picture these days

All I know about DVI is that my graphics card supports it, but my monitor only has an analog CRT plug, not DVI, so I need to use an adaptor, as shown below..

Thats all I know :?

It's digital so the signal goes

PC (D) wire (D) flat monitor (D)

instead of

PC (D) DAC in video card (A) wire (A) montors ADC (AD) monitors screen (D)

Theoretically the analog wires pick up other signals and become distorted, this then feeds screen, digital signal get distorted also but the wave forms are easily reconstituted. obviously too much distortion and the signal has bit errors.

Does digital make a difference, who knows, it depends on more things than I could list here. Try it and see.

I would say, that both your graphicscard and your videocard supports it, a DVI cable is the best in 99,9% of the cases!

except in vista where my screens are attached in analouge because vista cant wake them up properly after turning them off.

Stupid vista attacks sleeper again.

Also annoys me that if the dvi is plugged in it only shows a picture after the bios load screen has disappeared

analougue ftw - screw currys not supporting tapes anymore

Well I hav switched between the 2 and I have seen(imagined) some improvement in the image. Not devastating, but more of a sharpening up of the image.

dvi's purpose was highier bandwidth = higher res + high colours.

it also is HDCP whereas d-sub isnt.

DVI will soon be replaced as its run out of bandwidth (the 30 inchers use it all)
