I have a spare cpu which i want to remove from the stock cooler... only it seems stuck to the heat sink. anyone have any ideas on how to part the two? |

heat it up hour or two on top of the boiler, it'll come off no probs. If you don't have the time, use a hair dryer, but make sure you only gently waft it, you don't want to heat it direct. (ONLY HEAT THE HEATSINK) |

Leave it on there... Use Intel's Stress test program (Thermal Analysis Tool) when it hits bout 60-70C (keep fan fairly low RPM) then pull the plug. Pull the sink off afterwards, lol. Don't forget to clean the CPU off. Most people use an alcohol substance or something. You'll have to get someone to confirm that. |

UPDATE - its off. careful application of a cake knife and a liberal dollup of brute force seems to have done te job. |

Heh, I gota take my Chipset heatsink off, that'll be fun. They usually just plaster the paste on Anyone got any idea of something that I might have round the house to clean it off with? Thinking of sticking one of these on it. Temps of 55C aren't healthy. Passive heatsinks, gota love 'em. XD |
