I'm looking for a decent colour coded web editor, preferebly one that also has line numbers and does auto-indents. I have dreamweaver, but thats not free, its under trial, takes ages to load and I don't like it that much to be honest. :(

Got any recommendations?

Dreamweaver has a nice function of pulling up a menu as typing parts of webcode. I don't know if thats common with most editors, but that would be a great bonus. :?

Also, if you could recommend a decent ftp client, that would be awesome! :D

Notepad ++ isnt a bad editor. Wont pull up code though but its free.

I'll have to try that filezilla, but at the moment I'm using fire ftp, which is doing everything (basic stuff) that I want.

cue slappy saying vim.....

that said, if you don't want to constantly preview, vim is pretty decent, and if you don't want to have to install cygwin you can get something called gvim, which is vim but with buttons round the edge.

filezilla is nifty.

I tried using nvu, but it kept breaking my website, inserting bits where it thought they should go and destroying my indentations

I'm not running Linux yet (my net was causing me grief, it seems ok today, NTL/Virgin Media/::Whatever they like to be called this week:: had a little problem it would seem with servers in certain areas of the country, so basically, I had crappy signals anywhere in the northern area it seemed.. Hope I get better luck for this month. :P)

And yes, I've used nano, very good. But I was looking for something like Dreamweaver, but without all the added crappy extras. Just pure colour coded and preferebly with the code-finder that pops up when typing parts of code. :?

either wang cygwin on if you havent got it then, or use gvim

gvim is easier to set up, but cygwin is more useful if you want to work on your *nix skillz

Does that support PHP colour-coding? I just hate coding without colour because it stresses my eyes. :(
