Post subject:  Networking =S

Hey, I was wondering if i could get some help, basically, i have a BT wireless router downstairs, this everything in my house runs off. But.. my computer is far away and so i get alot of disconnecting and lag. i have another telephone socket in the room next to mine, and also have a netgear wireless router.

Is it possible to set up the netgear router in that room giving me better connection, or is it only 1 router per house kinda thing?

thanks in advance

You could try mains networking
Basically you have a ethernet cable which goes out of your router and into a modified house plug, this uses ur house mains supply to transport data at speeds upwards of 85mbps
You then need another one of these plugs which you connect to your pc
you can get em from maplin etc
theyre meant to be quite good :d

alternatively buy a range extender and this should give a better signal at your computer hopefully correcting all the problems

well i also want to connect my xbox 360 to internet with a wire, and i cant rele have a wire running thru the house, so i thought having a second router would make it easier, but if its not possible to have 2 routers i guess id have to get wireless =S

Uhh... you can, lol. I think their called bridges... either way, at my old school, they had them in most of our classrooms, they basically chuck the signals from one to the next if its out of range. Its just a wireless access point that uses an ethernet cable, so you'd need and ethernet and a wireless access point (may very well just be another router)

If you use another router... presumebly you'd plug the ethernet cable into one of the 4 LAN slots on your Netgear Router and then send that to the next router and connect it to its Internet In slot. You'd then make that send wireless signals that it recieves from the LAN.

You'd have to get someone to confirm it

Put short..
