I know I've asked this before... but when I was applying my thermal paste... there was less than what this person is claiming to be 'properly applied thermal paste'... and I mean I put ALOT less on. So is it worth me taking it off, getting some white spirit and reapplying some more?

I have noticed that the temps are pretty high for the cooling my fan is supposed to pack out on this CPU even at its current Speed and Voltage.

E6400 and when running at stock, it'll reach temps of 60-65C when playing CSS for example. But I get the same results when its overclocked to 380MHz x8 ? x.x

I have the same cooler and the temperatures are for sure too high for this CPU. Are you sure the cooler fits on the CPU 100% so there´s no gap ?

I've been running it like this for about 6 months, lol.

Yeah, sure theres no gaps. I think the main problem is that I just didn't apply enough grease.

Might rip it out later and take a peek see. . Its probibally crying for some grease by now, but I think I'll buy some Artic Silver 5 before doing that. I have some of the stuff that comes with it.. and some other normal compound.. but I think I'll just get some better stuff.

Idle temps at any clock speed are 37, 34 and occasionally 40, 37. The first core is always hotter than the second one. I presume this is normal?

Sorry, I missunderstood you. Try cleaning dust off the CPU and put new grease on.

Yes, different temperatures are normal. Don´t worry. My first core is 10 degrees hotter than the second.

Unless I use TAT and load the first core to 100%, if I load both to 100% at stock speed it still hits 70C+

thermal paste is supposed to merely provide 100% contact with both items, to fill the microscopic 'grain' of the metal if you like.. a very small amount spread properly over the surface should be enough..

definitely too hot methinks so i'd clean both surfaces and do it again.

if you want to go the whole hog...get some lapping paper (the finest glass paer you get used for fibre optic polishing.... and polish the bottom of the heatsink...

You might want to consider a diffrent cpu cooler, I have a Zalman CNPS9700 which runs at 40C idle.

I'm using a Zalman 9500 with 'High Thermal Conductivity Zinc Oxide' Thermal Conductivity is apparently 17x10^-4 cal/cm sec ºC

Changed it a sec ago and spread it a little better.. droped the temps a bit nicely but damn I hate spreading thermal compounds.

Also... my case is big enough for a Scythe or a Tuniq Tower 120. Who cares about upgrading to a Zalman 9700?

Personally.. I think I should just buy some Artic Silver 5 and be done with. Probs easier to spread too.

When applying it, I used a credit card... cards are flat right...? So presumebly.. if I hold the card's edge flat and spread... I should get a flat layer for good conductivity? (some areas are flatter than others obviously.)
