Ok i just opened up my graphics card and unscrewed the heatsynch / fan to clean away all the dust (heat issues)... but the contact from the heatsync is obviously a bit dry and old....

is it ok to apply cpu thermal paste on the graphics card heatsynch? i have some arctic silver upstairs been sitting there for about 14 months.... would that be ok or would it break it ? or??

should i just plonk it back with the old stuff and hope its ok?

got a nvidia 7900gt

I recommend to use the Arctic Silver instead. Just clean the GPU with alcohol or something similar and be carefull.

always use new stuff when re-seating heatsinks. Clean the old stuff right off with something alcoholic, then re paste and you're good to go.

excellent, thanks.. running this now with my arctic silver paste...

used white spirit to clean the old shit off..with a bit of bountry kitchen roll worked a treat.

dormant temp is now 43 degrees once again :) jobs a gooden :)


considering it was 78 degrees when playing games for 4 hours 2 weeks ago and artefacting..

also since i cleaned a bit of dust off my cpu heatsink my pc has stopped blue screening ... fingers crossed :/
