well im fed up, thursday night is pretty much the only night i get to just sit down and play games till i fall asleep on my keyboard. Last night i tried oh i tried but by the end i gave up and resorted to watching t.v

problem numero uno.

Got my new vista home built p.c connected by wifi to a belkin router, there is less than a meter between the router and the p.c but i cant find the ethernet drivers to use that. Just finshed downloading CSS in steam so thought id join you guys, however i cannot find any games when i searh and even add the blessed GCHQ server to my favourites. it always returns the problem "the server returned no games that match your query" or somethign like that. I thought "oh well ill play something else" so off i went onto cnc3 which connected most of the time however either lagging to hell (probally not me) or in most case not allowing me to connect to other poeple (its all P2P connections). so thats me, giving up on p.c gaming for the evening.

Strike 2

Thought id play abit of warhawk on the ps3, low and behold, connection problems (also connected to same router by wifi). so thats the ps3 out the way and a rather more angry me :(

strike 3

thought id give up on online gaming and went to turn on 360 for some bioshock, up pops the the 3 red rings of doom. now i wouldnt mind so much if i hadnt recieved my last one back from repair 1 and a half weeks ago and am now on the my 5th 360 since i got it on launch day :(

ok so thats the problems, my solutions have been to search up the IP's of each 3 devices and put them in the DMZ on my router which apparently sorts all port forwarding out for me therefor resolving any connection issues. doesnt work.

if anyone with some networking knowledge can give me a hand here with what im doing wrong and maybe i just need to buy a new router if that is the problem, if so are there any good "gaming" routers that you guys use?

ive turned off all firewalls security stuff etc. Im on orange's 8mb BB unlimited.

If it hadnt been for my Sky HD box i may have actually had to resort to talking to the family last night!! what a disaster that would have been!

any help greatly appreciated :)

 lol that is on bugger of a nite
quick questions
1.are the devices actually connecting to the router? or just not gettin any connection to the internet?
2. have you tried turning the routers built in firewall off to see if tht makes a difference? (though it shouldnt)
3. is anyone h4xoring your bandwith ie. do you have security on your network?

you shouldnt need to buy a killer router, my routers very basic (sounds the same as yours) and i can play game on the wireless without much issue

I have tried using both Ethernet and wifi same problems.

the devices are connected to the router and i am getting an internet connection, just unable to connect in games and on things like steam.

i have every firewall off including the router one

i doupt anyone is hacking me, the wifi is secured

i have just installed the drivers for, and plugged in my mega old USB modem into p.c. connections are working fine now and the whole thing is very speedy. however i cant use the net on my ps3 or xbox (well cant do anything on the xbox).

apart from wack the router with a hammer is there anything i can do to it?

Solve problems completely, direct connection. :P

As for the 360... Get one of those Intercoolers, think you can buy them from Amazon.

And the Router issue... cable is usually perfect for me, but lolSteam sometimes gives me that error. Damn its annoying. Have you tried going into the console and typing "connect cs.gamecommunity.co.uk" ?

Whats the model number of the router?

The 360 means it needs 360 degree airflow all round. The intercoolers seem to be a bit of give and take, they will also increase the increase of dust build up in the unit creating the opposite effect to what you want to achieve. Here's my rig on my modem which always use to conk out in hot weather. My Sky box use to do the same till I sat in on two wooden rails.

the original problem...
is this a new router you are trying..or a router you have originally used to play css etc..meaning.....you can rule out port forwad/firewall problems o the router....

it could be vista.... is this is the only time you have seen such problems....

Casp

The router is a belkin F5D7632-4, probably a good 2-3 years old. It does get very hot but it is in quite a well ventilated area.

Perhaps ill try and grab me one of those intercoolers for the 360 and just have to make sure i give the thing a good clean every couple of days (meth should be ok right? )

Nicey

Old router old problems, i have in the past had connection problems but not as bad as this and the have not effected steam before. However the fact that when i use old usb modem all works and the problems arnt limited to my p.c i would think its not a problem with vista.

What routers do you guys use? the only thing is can think of is i buy the same one as someone who has it working perfectly and i copt all their settings, then if i still have problems its not the router and i can give up gaming and read a book or something naff like that. (i do actually like reading that was just an example all you book worms out there :P )
