i have got some new parts and rebuilt my system as follows ThermalTake TR2 500W Gainward GeForce Bliss 8800GTS 640MB Intel CPU Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 95W Energy G0 Asus Motherboard P5K Intel P35 Geil Ultra DDR2 2.0GB PC6400 Dual Channel memory kit (2 x 1GB) 500GB Samsung SATA II 300 Hard Disk Drive 16MB cache 7200rpm the problem - random crashs with in windows, any game i start like team fortress 2 plays for a short time and then hangs with the sounds stuttering at first i though it might have been the PSU not being upto the job but i left memtest running over night and that showed a error rebooted and ran memtest again , sometimes it runs for ages with no error, sometimes it shows up again ( always in the same place - end of test5 ) so is it the memory at fault - if so why isnt it showing all the time or is it that the PSU doesnt give it enought juice and hence things are failing it thats the case would something like the ThermalTake 250W Power Express VGA Power make my system stable ? cheers |

you got a much weaker pci-e gfx card? if so try putting that in for a while. if the problem goes away then either a gfx problem (more likely driver than hardware) or more likely your psu isnt pumping out enough juice. Also to test the memory take 1 stick out, leave it for abit or run mem test, then do the same with the other. your the unluckiest man ever if both your sticks are duff. Also try a safe boot (no drivers boot software nothing), this will alleviate any software conflicts you might be having. what components are new and what did/ didnt work before? |

Mem test aside mate - I installed nvid drivers cos steam asked me to for TF2 - I played a few mins and it hung with stuttering sound....... Rolled back and its fine - those drivers also gave me lag in Quake wars - and I mean even mouse lag on the menu screen...... HTH |
