Post subject:  Booting

Currently i have this as my IDE configuration.

First IDE :

1x DVD Master
1xCD Slave

Second IDE :

1x HDD Master
1x HDD Slave

I want to have a dual boot with the master and slave drives, how can i get it to show the dual boot screen?

First drive has Windows XP and the second has Ubuntu.

I was thinking about changing the boot.ini file to see if it would allow me to choose to boot into it, but i dont wanna change it incase i break windows boot

Hmm partition magic seems like a good idea colt but id rather not install a 3rd party app. :?

All I can say... IS BE VERY CAREFUL...

Be sure to backup that file before modding it and be sure to have another compy handy if it cocks up. I changed mine and forgot to set it to the right partition... didn't have another PC with SATA connectors... so I used Maddogs compy to remove the boot.ini from my hard-drive.

Just a word of warning.

Yeah i seen pleanty of warnings on a majority of the sites i looked at, its all very complicated just to dual boot :(

Gave me a sore head so ive given up at the mo just so i dont cock up really lol

I'll have a look at it tommorow, think il just set the linux hdd to boot first and use GRUB for the boot menu, seems easier.

When I did this... I had to change something in the boot file that took priority... in this case, it was the debian boot file. so I had to add the windows to the bootup menu and then it went through to the Windows boot menu. lol.

Was a long time ago though, and I don't remember how to do it now. :P

boot.ini should be all you need - just adding a second line to the [operating systems] part won't break anything.

Just set up grub on your primary drive. Surprised Ubuntu didn't do it for you tbh, it did for me.
