Post subject:  disk inconsistencies

my computer has been running a bit laggy for a day or 2 and so i have ran the usual spyware scans, virus scans, etc and then went to defrag my harddrive and got this

defragmentation of (C:) has been aborted due to inconsistencies that were detected in the filesystem. please run chkdsk or scandisk on (C:) to repair these inconsistencies, then run disk defragmenter again.

i have tried to run chkdsk but every time i try it gives me some bull yang error saying it cant do it because it doesnt have the disc that it was installed with (which it does... its in the drive)

anyone got any ideas? other than a format...

Sounds like you've got crossed linked allocation unit or file, its a symptom of what could be a bad or weak sector on the disk.

Try Tune Up Utilities 2008 which has its own Disk Doctor. Can be got through the usual channels...

Also make sure you click Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, then re-boot.

I'm on MSN if you want it! Make sure you run all the cleaning parts of the program first.

TBH you would have been better to partition 20 - 50Gb for the OS and the rest for games, Apps and the Internet Cache.

from device manager.... uninstall the channel.... then find new devices...if everythings ok..it should come up in ultra dma if everythings ok...

i had a cpl of probs opn my old disk...that had a cpl of errors on...kept running in pio....which made it very sluggish...
down load process explorer..and you will probably find that you have hardware interupts on that device.
