A long time ago when the 3G vodafone cards for laptops were released we never had a problem with installing the software and running the cards. Connection was fantastic and could get your texts etc up.

But the moment you break the card and get a exact replacement back. It will not work...
Why is this??

The relevance to this is, I am in a dilemma with a Vodafone e220 USB modem...
Its a plug and play... has a sim. The lady lost the first one and Vodafone sent her a new one.

Nothing was un-installed and she plugged the new one in... does not work. Windows picks it up as a Mass USB device... O/S is Vista... but I also assure you this is a problem with XP as well...

How do I get around this... I have reinstalled all the firmware software etc for the device and same outcome... is there anything in the registry I need to hack into... or an alternate solution

I thought I would post here to see if any of you guys had experience on this matter??

well seen as you havent really explaned it well ill guess
1. its not a exact replacement cause it will have a diff mac address and that it bound to the contract if we are talking about some kind wireless networking
2. if its purely sms based, i set one of the uni sms gateways and the divice is bound to the sim and need a ATA command to re register it to the divice
3 you dont know what your doing :)
4 1 or 2 + 3 is more the case :)

I've got vodaphone 3G broadband (same I dont get 3g up here!)

Have you tried just un-installing the software, then plugging the stick in and running from there?
Don't bother pissing about with the CD.

I've got it for my laptop which is XP and never any problems.

Failing that, call them up....probrably needs registered or something.
