My 23mnth old Dell died on the 21st dec 08 (beeeep beeeep)  Turned out to be mobo but not a simple change, I had opted for 1 yr warranty so no free shiny new mobo was forthcoming from Dell , they wanted £200 to fit new mobo or £140 to supply me with one  Basically I politely told them to furry cough The problem I had was my mobo (HY175?) was mounted on the lefthand side of my case, all others I have seen have been mounted on the right. In the end I ended up with a frankenpc, I got a new case with 400W PS, a new mobo & a higher spec processor, all for £160  . Decided to go the whole hog an get some higher spec ram which turned up today  or so I thought  When I installed both sticks of ram in slots 1 & 2 all I got was a long beep, tried each stick in slot 1 & PC loaded fine, obviously they both worked. I then retried them together in slots 1 & 2 and still wouldnt load, the only way both sticks will work is by putting them in slots 3 & 4, is this ok or is there something I need to do to put them in slots 1 & 2? Any ideas? Mobo: a gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3/S3 Processor: Athlon 64X2 dual core 6000+ 3.1GHz Ram: 2 off 2GB Corsair DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX _________________  VIVITE FUGIO

normally they go in opposite slots ie 1 and 3 or 2 and 4, but the slots should be colour coded so put both in the same colour slots

Slots 1 & 2 are yellow, 3 & 4 are red

try 1 and 3 or 2 and 4

when they both go in 3 and 4...how much memory shows when the pc is running...

got another problem after around 10 minutes of gaming graphics are locking up (any game) I have to restart pc as everything locks up, any ideas as I ain't got a clue where to start I've tried old & new graphics drivers _________________ VIVITE FUGIO

what gfx you got... could be overheating..possible........ 1st... download speedfan...that should monitor your fans.... and also you can auto your cpu fan so it speeds up when cpu is heating up.... check to see if a program...'rivatune' supports your gfx card... (you can check at http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163you dont want to overclock you gfx card..but maybe increase the fan speed up by 25% see if that helps....(rivatune can do this) thats what i would do anyway... and have done.... _________________ Went to a zoo, they only had one animal there, a dog............. Gaming sort of stress tests your PC. Last time it happened to me it was the Ram.
