My question to you guys is:

"On the Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 R2, is there an in-built time application?"

Reason being the times seem to be out on most if not all machines. We checked the times on the server that we can see and its fine correct time and correct date.

Is there anything in the BIOS for example that will need to be enabled, or have an effect?

It's not a mind bobbling issues but its slightly off putting. So any advice would be great.

We got offered an application that hooks up to the Internet and pulls back a time for us. It has not been implemented because we don't want to put an application over something that might already be there.

Obviously if there is no in-built time (I find hard to believe) that's the route we shall have to go.

It should do it by default...The server will operate as both a NTP client and NTP server :)

First, disable whatever group policies you've made that have borked it :D

On a workstation try net time \\servername and see what it reports
Then net time /querysntp
To bodge round it you could script net time \\servername /set /Y into the login script
...or assign NTP servers via group policy ...or read up on the w32tm command and fix it

Make sure you aren't blocking port 123 UDP outbound on the firewall

my ESX boxes often pay a visit to them

Its worth seeing if the Windows Time service is running on the client PCs.
If all else fails, run this command on them all, you only need to do it once :)

net time /setsntp:"ntp2a.mcc.ac.uk ntp2b.mcc.ac.uk"

Sorry took a while to get back.

I looked into the issue and solved it via the command line. Pretty straight forward process.
All works and I don't need to purchase a £3.99 app recommended to us for keeping an up to date server time.
