Dad somehow managed to delete his own music collection..on his pc...TWICE in 2 days...
When you delete your music LIBRARY it should simply delete your library and not the files themselves correct?
i.e. you should be able to simply add the music folders and it will be the same right??
His itunes music folder is the same location as his music location
i.e. not the default being:
C:\Documents and Settings\Michael\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
but instead
C:\privatefiles\music
How can this possibly be the case that his music itself (or the vast majority of it) has been deleted????

yea i didnt think it deleted the files as well. check settings? i dont use itunes tbh other then transfering vid files to my itouch

well believe it, its deleted his music collection
he is re-attaining his collection for the second time in 3 days... he is not happy.....

he asserts that he was only ever prompted with a screen saying it would remove it from library and / ipod ---- not original files...
(I am dubious as to whether he has misunderstood a message and clicked yes when he shouldn't have)

itunes is notorious for deleting peoples library.it locks the music to your itunes account. if it thinks any other player is connected or you are trying to share music then it deletes it, honestly i didnt think anyone still used itunes as its so bad, costs money and sucks.
just use winamp. free and wont delete anything,
or sharepod, but winamps simpler

thanks.... seriously thats outrageous that it would just delete files!!!
what alternative software would you recommend for using instead of itunes for managing IPOD stuff.

SHAREPOD, it installs on your IPOD, so you can use it on any pc without having to install anything, and its basically drag and drop

sharepod is good, it pretty much turns your ipod into a pen drive, just drag and drop.
Also winamp is good. it has built in support for ipods and allows you to edit you collection etc if needed.
