booted up my pc this evening and it just decided to switch itself off again,so tried to switch it on again and was met with the safe mode screen.First thought was maybe a virus so i booted up into safe mode. My pc decided to switch itself off again, this time followed by a small bang and a puff of smoke from the fan at the back.....dead pc :(

I cannot stress how pi**ed off i am atm lol ! life without my pc is way too much to bear !!!!

I'm not sure where to go from here....I'm kinda thinking it could be the psu but how can i tell ? what if its fried my motherboard !!! grrr ffs this pc isnt even 3 yrs old yet lol !!!

if i get another psu to just try then a noob like me is bound to get the wireing mixed up lol....luckily im on tanya's pc atm but the most this can manage is facebook !!!!

any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated guys :)

Sorry to hear that nims. :(

Take out the PSU and take alook inside it, you should be able to tell. It will also smell of burnt circuits.
Motherboards tend not to go bang, unless water or or liquids are involved.

Not sure on the spec of your PC, but Overclockers do a good range of PSUs.

It'll be fine. I understand where Rusty's coming from though, thing about power supplies is generally the more you spend the more efficient, safe and reliable they are, if got few hundred quids worth of hardware running on it can be worth spending a little extra. Its as much down to the supply protecting your components if it does go iffy as much as suppling a constant amperage. Although saying that I had a five year old PC with a cheaper PSU than that and I've never had any problems where as one of my older coolmaster PSU's went cuputz. :?

Basically uplug all the sockets, unscrew the four screws on the back of the case, pull the old PSU out, put new one back in, plug all sockets back in, screw tight, then fingers crossed it will work. :?

Don't forget to make a note of where all the cables went to BEFORE you unplug the old PSU

*recently spent a good 20mins trying to remember where certain cables used to go and if any of the ones I had left over were really that important  *
