Post subject:  Probably something basic i've overlooked but..

I can't access BBC website, any part of their domain.

From my PC, laptop or PS3 (PS3 browser or via iplayer).

Rebooted every machine and router (twice). They all use same router.

Check firewall, added the beeb to trusted sites.

Can't access some other sites either (talktalk customer service for one!)

Any way I can check connection?

Win XP connectivity tester sees no probs at my end,

Last diagnostic run time: 05/05/10 14:49:47 HTTP, HTTPS, FTP Diagnostic
HTTP, HTTPS, FTP connectivity

info FTP (Passive): Successfully connected to ftp.microsoft.com.
warn HTTP: Error 12031 connecting to www.microsoft.com: The connection with the server was reset
info HTTPS: Successfully connected to www.microsoft.com.
info HTTP: Successfully connected to www.hotmail.com.

nor does Win 7 tester on laptop.

Tried Chrome, IE8 and Firefox....

Chrome: Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to news.bbc.co.uk

IE8: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Firefox: The connection has timed out
The server at www.bbc.co.uk is taking too long to respond

???

The problem is your internet provider...that for some reason is temporarely blocking or as no acess to the BBC site ...... That happens to me a few times

try using open dns servers instead of your numpty (word of the week) isp's dns servers

8)
see if that works

Ive used them in the past when i have a problem accessing some sites...none using the open dns servers tho.

Aye, don't mention working for a living - you could fatally raise his blood pressure, which at his size is forcing ragu around his veins

I agree with Geoff for once. But to add you can always try the IP of a website so you don't have to mess around with DNS. If you can reach the website on IP and not on DNS name you indeed have a DNS problem.

To get the IP of a website you can ask a friend to do a lookup.
