ok, soo i upgraded from a ATI 4850 to a 5870 yesterday afternoon, un-installed full catalyst suite and drivers, installed newest version for the 5000 series. i spent yesterday evening and this morning/afternoon hapilly playing APB. I then moved my pc back to mine (had been at the sisters) and had a wee game of L4D2 all fine. i then go to launch APB and it crashes on launch, i try repeatedly to launch it to no avail, getting the error "D3DERR_INVALIDCAL". after some googling found its some kind of directx/gfx drivers problem soo i un-install the full 10.6 suite/drivers, reboot, re-install, reboot. still no luck. then to test the directx theory tried launching assassins creed 2.. crashes on launch. try L4D2 (opengl) works fine... my next though is roll back to older drivers, soo un-install 10.6 (this time only the display drivers) and install 10.5, reboot. same problem, directx games all crash on launch, opengl games run fine. im completely stumped here and frankly getting rather pissed off with the whole thing, has anyone got any idea how to solve the issue? i had thought about putting the 4850 back in, but then thought it probably wont make a difference as everything was working fine last night/early today with the 5870... got no clue what to try next. oh and according to my dxdiag everything is as it should be  would greatly appreciate some assistance on this one, dont really have much to do other than play games at the moment and now i cant even do that

this is ati, uninstalling dosent work.
first use add/remove programs and completly remove ati suite, then reboot to safe mode and use driver sweeper to remove all ati drivers, then run cc cleaner to clean out registry .
then reboot to normal and install ati drivers.
ps 10.6 drivers really really suck, the 10.5 were much more stable

when you do...just install thedrivers ...not the suite....
with ati you can get atixxxx errors..... i solved mine by not installing the suite.

 i did as trev said and installed 10.5 and still have the same problem  feck knows what to do now...

ok.. soo i just sat and tried launching a few different games.. seems its only APB and Assassins Creed 2 that are being effected by this GTAIV, Frontlines, Dirt2, world of tanks, Cod 5 all work fine... i dont get it.

gonna re-install APB overnight.. takes bloody ages to download =/ will let you's know tomorrow if it sorts it. if not i guess its time to re-install windows

ITS ALLIVVVEEE! no idea if what trev suggested had anything to do with it or not.. but re-installing APB has made it work again
